The Mill

From log to lumber.

Landforce opened The Mill in October 2025: a 10,000-square-foot facility in Pittsburgh’s East End. Without recovery, these logs might go to a landfill or end up as firewood or chips. As lumber, the wood lasts longer, stays out of the landfill, and keeps its carbon stored.

  1. Recover the log

    Before pickup, we talk with the property owner and the certified arborist so the logs are usable when we collect them.

  2. Mill it with care

    Our sawyer decides how to mill each log for the best return with the least waste.

  3. Dry it slowly

    Boards are stacked for airflow and checked with a moisture meter for months, sometimes up to a year, before they go into our vacuum kiln.

  4. Put it to work

    Kiln-dried lumber goes on sale. If a property owner wants lumber from their own tree for a project, we can talk about that before pickup.
